Having ballet injuries is natural for a ballet dancer or for someone who is learning to dance ballet. These types of injuries takes place when performing or learning how to ballet dance. Because of this, there's a new field of practice being opened up for medical practioners known as dance medicine. There are a great number of medical practitioners who have been employed by dance schools as well as dance institutions to care for injuries that happen during the process of dancing. Ballet dancers today have sufficient medical care and now have access to a huge number of specialist doctors. Many of these doctors specialize in dealing with dance injuries.
Safety is always being prioritize by ballet dancers, however the chance of any accident taking place during a performance is always there. And these types of accidents may lead to a serious one. There are a number of things that you need to keep in mind if you wish to avoid ballet injuries:
In accordance to a survey carried out by the Journal of dance Medicine and Science, a vast majority (90 percent) of professional ballet dancers who suffered from injuries reported that they felt worn out just before the accident took place. This proved that the majority of the accidents on the dance floor took place when the dancers are tired and weak. Almost 70 percent of these dancers had a rehearsal just five hours before injuring themselves. These results just proved one thing - never dance when you feel weak or tired. Make sure that you are in good shape when you perform. And of course, get a lot of rest ahead of every performance. In case while dancing you suddenly feel weak or tired, it is better to take a small break and restart the dance instead of risking an injury.
Ballet dancers need to build in time for rest between the periods of rehearsals and the performances. This rest is extremely important to prevent dance related injuries that might otherwise occur.
There are so other small things that ballet dancers are able to do for their safety. Only wear shoes that perfectly fits. Adjust the level of activity whenever you feel extremely exhausted or strained. Always check if the floor is slippery, only dance on smooth surface. Avoid dancing on concrete floor. Have a good warm-up session before you dance as this helps strengthen the muscles and helps avoid muscle and ligament pulls.
Ballet dancing is an art that has to be performed with grace and flair. At the same time, you have to be careful not to harm yourself while dancing.
