For those who have children you should be aware of the common symptoms of ADHD. A medical professional is the best source for treatment if you find your child has ADHD. If you don't help your child deal with this disorder they will eventually be at a disadvantage at school and in life. It can be tricky to treat this disorder however, since the symptoms are easily confused and misdiagnosed by many parents. Since, the behavior of the average child more often than not appears to be the same as symptoms of the ordinary child. Watching the child's behavior over time then becomes the best thing a parent can do. Hopefully this article will help you to become more aware of three of the symptoms of ADHD.
A child with ADHD will often have a hard time focusing on anything or on details quite frequently. Pay attention to how your child completes activities like school work, do they often make careless mistakes? We all know that those so-called symptoms are seen in many children and even adults, we may add. A quick diagnosis on a few activities is not a good idea. If you feel more comfortable doing so, then there's nothing wrong with talking to your doctor and getting some guidance about the best way to proceed.
There are three particular categories of ADHD symptoms. Also, each symptom can further be classified by description of the behavior. ADHD has typically been classified in the first category of Hyperactivity or Impulsive behavior. Now there are additional categories, including the second category of Inattentive type, also know as ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder. The combined type is the third category and encompasses children who exhibit inattentive as well as hyperactive behavior.
Another thing to pay attention to is your child's avoidance of mental effort for extended periods of time. Most kids of course would prefer not to haveto do mental work and instead play their video games. Homework has been a matter of contention among children of any age since the dawn of time. But still, most children do their schoolwork and are able to sustain the required effort to do so. This is one of the first things that an ADHD child will exhibit, the absolute aversion to activities requiring mental effort. Most often parents will report this behavior upon the child reaching school age requiring homework or other school related work.
An evaluation by your family physician is necessary if you feel your child has had these symptoms for a long period of time.
